Guild Wars 2 Port Forwarding: what is it?

Port Forwarding, in all its glory, allows us to forward ports. Now, these ports act as freeways for our data to travel through. Be it in or out of the network.

Our network is protected using a firewall. This utility often blocks information coming from sources outside our network. Port Forwarding thus helps these external devices to connect to our system for faster data transfer.

We also have a blog on how to Port Forward Guild War (the first part).

Why is Port Forwarding needed in the first place?

A valid question! It is needed if you want to communicate with the outside world. And well, if we could have a gaming server by our side, you bet we would be the first in line. But that is way out of reach. Hence, Port Forwarding allows these external servers to access our system within our local private network.

This permission is given by opening specific ports ( commonly called Port Forwarding). Data from external devices, such as gaming servers, travels through these opened gates. It helps with transferring data without any interruptions. Guild Wars 2 Port Forwarding has many benefits as it improves the connection speed by allowing faster data transfer.

Here is what you need for GW2 Port Forwarding

We know what Port Forwarding is. Now we’ll see what we need for Port Forwarding. There are just three things required for gw2 lag Port Forwarding. You can easily find them in your network’s settings (we will tell you how).

    Note down the following:

    1. Your router’s IP address: There are many ways to find it (we have provided a method below).
    2. Your system’s IP address: “Your system” would imply anything from your PC to your gaming console.
    3. TCP and UDP ports: These are the ports used for gw2 Port Forwarding.

Where to look for your router’s ip?

There are many ways you can get your router’s IP address. You will find an IP address written on the back of your router. But that IP is often not deemed reliable. So, we will present you with another way – simple and fail-proof.

    Router’s IP using command prompt

The process is fairly easy. All you have to do is open up the command prompt and type ipconfig. It will let you access your router’s IP. But if you are unfamiliar with the cmd terminal, we have provided detailed steps for you to follow.

    1. Turn on your system.
    2. Locate the Start menu.
    3. Type cmd in the search tab.
    4. Or you can also press Windows + R.
    5. Type cmd.
    6. Press Enter.
    7. It will open up the command prompt window.
    8. Type ipconfig.
    9. There will be a bunch of information displayed about your network.
    10. Scroll to find the Default gateway.
    11. The IP beside it is the one we need.

How to set a static IP address?

For Port Forwarding to work, we would need a static IP address instead of a dynamic one. A static IP would ensure that your system is marked down in your home network. the steps below:

    1. Open up a web browser.
    2. In the URL, enter your router’s IP.
    3. You get directed to your router’s dashboard.
    4. Enter credentials (username and password) to log in.
    5. Locate the DHCP reservations tab.
    6. Click on it.
    7. Enter a static IP address for your system in the relevant field.

    2. In the URL tab, enter your router’s IP.
    3. You get directed to your router’s dashboard.
    4. Enter credentials (username and password) to log in.
    5. Once you have successfully logged in, search for the Port Forwarding section.
    6. In the Port Forwarding section, look for the IP address field.
    7. Enter your system’s IP address.
    8. In the ports field, enter the noted TCP and UDP ports.
    9. Click Save.

Well, you have defeated your ultimate enemy – a lag of course! But there is an easier way or more like a one-click solution for gw2 lag Port Forwarding. Try a VPN Port Forwarding add-on to ensure that your data travels through your network without hindrance and at an improved rate.
